If you want to know how stupid man is, just consider this.
What makes God who he is?
First, he is all powerful so he can do anything except that which is against his nature and word.
Second, he knows everything.
Third, he is everywhere all the time.
The reason he is all three is due to the fact that he is omnipotent and infinite.
Now, look at what man is up to. He says that either there is no God or that he doesn’t need God because he can rule his own life without God’s help.
The problem with this rationale is that man in not infinite. He is finite. I have to admit being able to do what God can do needs a superhuman effort. Just imagine there are two billion Christians praying all at the same time around the globe. How does God hear and understand every one of them bearing in mind that thousands of languages are being used?
The fact is, only God could hear and understand the prayers of two billion saints and make sense of it because he is infinite and omnipotent.
Because man is finite, he cannot be infinite or omnipotent. But the fact is by saying there is no God they are trying to do what an infinite God is doing with only the resources of a finite mind.
No wonder so many people end up a complete and utter mess. They get stressed up to their eyeballs trying to do and be what they are not capable of doing or being.
It is like a 15 year old boy competing with Mr. Universe in a body building competition. There is no contest. Despite this fact, we go blithely on muttering “she’ll be all right mate” when it is patently obvious that it won’t be.
Despite this fact, we would rather muddle on in abject failure than surrender to the one who knows what he is doing, thus taking all the pressure off ourselves.
The end result of our stubbornness is that we no longer know what is important. Men think that chasing sex and money is the key to life; women believe that a career is more important than their children so you dump them in commercial childcare to be cared for by surrogate mothers and tell yourself that everything will be OK when all the evidence shows that it will not be OK; money has become a God and success is measured in what you do and how much you earn, the size of your house, the cars in the garage and the overseas holiday.
What did Jesus and Paul have to say about this?
“Take no thought for tomorrow”
“Be content with what you have”.
“I will supply all your needs (note, not wants).”
“Seek first the kingdom and all these (material) things will be added.”
“You can’t serve God and money.”
Try and be God if you want to, but I can tell you now, the finite cannot produce the infinite. Sooner or later something has to give and it may well be your sanity.
