POWER AND THE GLORY

Most political and society leadership today is based on power over. Every election, the elected government, President, Premier Minister says that they will govern for all Australians, Americans, Brits etc.

In most cases, they then ignore the majority of citizens and put in place policy that is the product of a particular ideology, regardless what the majority want. I remember in my own country in 1983, the Labor government said they were going to legalise brothels. They were told in no uncertain terms that it was not wanted.

In a meeting with the government minister responsible, he said whether we wanted it or not, we were going to have it as it was party policy.

The other scenario is the government is most likely captive to a vocal minority like homosexuals who want to impose their will on the majority. In most cases, they want to overthrow that which is tried and tested and proven in the fire of adversity and which society has been built on successfully.

An example is these people who want any Tom, Dick or homosexual be given the right to marry and have children. This is despite the overwhelming fact that the best interests of the child is served when they have a mum and dad in a committed marriage relationships.

Unfortunately, the propensity to control is widespread in the church and mirrors society to be seen as relevant and “with it.” The servant mentality is rarely seen in its leadership.

In Luke 22 Jesus said to his disciples that the greatest among them is the person who serves. Thee word “serve” in the Greek is “diakoneo” which means to wait on tables or serve dinner.

When was the last time you saw a church leader wait on tables or serve dinner? Unfortunately, most of the time they want to sit at the top table with the important people and be waited on.

If we are the church and the so called leadership is appointed by God, why is it they find it so difficult to obey the word of God?

I have put it down to one or all of three things. They are rejection, cultural tradition or witchcraft in the church. All three precludes the dictates of the word of God and gives the deluded leader the idea that they are serving God when they control everybody and everything.

After all, we want everything done decently and in order and no one does that better than me, not even the Holy Spirit.
