If you have read my previous post about the Holy Spirit choosing leaders, you might be wondering what spirit anointed leadership looks like. Judging by the leadership that some churches have, people do not know the answer to this one. If they did, they would do something about the fact that they do not have spirit anointed leadership.
The fact that leadership in the church today doesn’t look anything like the New Testament Church leadership is mainly due to the fact that it is denominational leadership, not the scriptures that determines what happens.
If you don’t believe me, look at these examples.
Does your leadership have a special car parking place right next to the door of the building?
If your congregation have a meal together, does your leadership sit at the top table and expect to be waited on?
Does your leadership insist that any ministry that is done has to be first approved by them?
Is new leadership appointed from outside of the congregation by the denominational hierarchy?
Does your leadership insist on or give the impression that they are the only ones who hear from God?
Does your leadership do the entire ‘glamour’ ministry and leave the leftovers to everyone else?
Does your leadership expect to be paid for what they do whilst everyone else has to do things voluntary?
Does your leadership give the impression that they know more than you do because they have been to Bible College?
Does your leadership insist that the Sunday morning meeting is planned down to the last minute?
Does your leadership insist that nothing must change on Sunday mornings?
Does your leadership try and set themselves apart by wearing funny dresses (I mean men)?
Does your leadership avoid spending time developing other people’s ministry?
If the answer to all or some of these, it is highly likely that your leadership has no anointing from God for what they are doing. All these scenarios suggest that the person concerned is more interested about himself and his ministry than other people and their ministry.
A true anointed leadership will always make sure everyone else has his needs met before they think about their own needs. They will set examples by not having special car parking; by not sitting at the top table; by ensuring that everyone has a meal before they get their own; they will make sure that everyone has the opportunity to be involved in the ministry that they feel gifted for, not just those approved by the leadership; they will try to blend in, not set themselves apart with funny dresses; they will acknowledge that God can use anyone to minister, not just those who have been to bible college; etc. etc. etc.
This is commonly known as servanthood the sort that Jesus said was the pathway to leadership. In other words, the way down is the way up. If you want God’s approval, you get it by serving, not by lauding it over others.
The reason we have leadership that lauds it over people is because they run businesses which means protecting their power base. They are not facilitating living organisms and the reason for this is the fact that you cannot control living organisms and for most leaders, that is anathema. Unless they are controlling, they feel very insecure.
