THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth. How do I know this?

Read John 16 v 13... But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak about his own ideas; he will speak only what he hears from God, and he will tell you what is going to happen.

The word “truth” here means “not concealing”. In other words, the Holy Spirit will reveal to you all that you need to know to become a disciple or follower of Jesus.

The key to becoming a disciple or follower of Jesus is to listen. Listen to your discipler and listen to the Holy Spirit. When you hear his direction, you go and do it.

You can have confidence in the Holy Spirit leading you and in what he says as he will always lead you into the truth as he does lie. Only the devil will lie to you.

Unlike the Holy Spirit, he will not reveal the truth. He only wants you to believe the lies that he tells you.

The second thing to realise is that the truth sets you free.

Look at John 8 v31-32. Jesus had been talking to some Jews who accepted what he said and believed in him as the messiah. He said to them “you become a real disciple of mine if you continue in my teaching. This will enable you to know the truth and that truth will set you free”.

A disciple is one who is a learner or pupil; to continue in his teaching is to stay in a given place, in other words, a person who does not stop learning the ways of God; to know the truth is to know for sure and understand and his “word” is the spoken word, one that you have to hear from the Holy Spirit.

The fact that the truth sets you free suggests that without it you are in bondage which is the opposite of freedom. If the Holy Spirit leads you into all truth and the truth sets you free and without the truth you are in bondage, the clear message is that you cannot be a disciple of Jesus without the Holy Spirit as an active component in your life, speaking to you, teaching you, and leading you.

Another thing. If the Holy Spirit tells you something that requires a change in what you are doing if you don’t do it you will be in bondage until you do. Why is that? Because the truth sets you free. Ignoring the truth puts you into bondage. You will have to then keep avoiding the issue and cover it up with activity, albeit Christian activity to avoid doing what the Holy Spirit is telling you to do.
