The more I think about it the more I realise that one of the most important aspects of being a Christian is to hear the voice of God.
He is the Lord of the universe, the creator of heaven and earth; he knows his plans for us from A-Z already, so the most logical thing in the world is to find out what that is.
The simplest way to find out is to talk to Him, who by the way is our father, so why wouldn’t he want to talk to us.
He is the author and finisher of our faith, the one who has all the answers for us.
However, the one thing we seem reluctant to do is to talk to God and allow him to talk to us. I know that in meetings we pray, but the question is “what about?” usually God bless us, bless our meeting, and give us a good time, a good message. In other words, it is all about me and my plans.
Is that what you say to your earthly Dad when you talk to him?
Having said what you have said to God, do you allow time for him to speak to you? In all probability it is a case of we ask all these things in the name of Jesus our Lord, amen.
The next hymn is 462 “Rescue the perishing, care for the dying.”
In other words, God doesn’t get much of a look in. After all, going through the set programme decently and in order is a mark of being led by the spirit isn’t it.
Anyway, why do we need to hear from God? We have a set programme which we use every week of the year, so we have already got our instructions.
I made a request that one Sunday morning a month we hold a prayer concert which meant that the whole time be spent in praise and listening and talking to God. The request was refused on the basis that some people might leave the fellowship if we do that.
In other words, not rocking the boat is more important than hearing from God.
I have just read the results of another survey which showed that the bible is irrelevant to young people. When the church is not even interested in hearing from God, why would the unbeliever want to?
